Giving on Giving Tuesday

What a year it's been, huh?

This year was one of the most trying, traumatic, and tumultuous for many of us. Especially those in historically marginalized communities. It's been a daily onslaught since the year began, with most of saying to ourselves each day, "what's next?" It's been so hard y'all, for all of us, myself included. But, those who are reading this, we're still here, regardless of a lot of that. We made it through, but it's important to acknowledge those who haven't. We have neighbors missing. Immigrant community members who have been taken from us, hundreds of thousands of Black Women and others who are out of work, communities are under siege by their own government, the genocides that are taking place in Palestine, the DRC, and the Sudan. So many atrocities are happening all at once, it's beyond overwhelming. It's absolutely horrifying.

But again, despite it all we are still here. And those of us who are still here have a responsibility. As we navigate our personal obstacles and work to overcome them lies the hope of breaking through the macro obstacles of our society. We are community, we are family, and we are our own champions. The power of community is in our collective strength and that's why the people who have been placed in powerful positions and are in direct opposition to what we are striving for, (equity, sustainability, and restorative justice), are doing their damndest to dismantle our foundations. They don't want us to come together. They want us worrying about where our next meal is coming from and if our neighborhood will be the next one raided. They are sowing mistrust and fear because they know how powerful we are as a collective unit- because our communities have done it before and we will/are doing it again.

So what are we as a community members, neighbors, colleagues, and friends giving to each other this Giving Tuesday? Time? Energy? Money? Care? Love? Protection? Strength? Information? It all matters and counts. We need all of the above it if we are determined to take back and grow our collective power. As an organization WinC exists to support the most marginalized members in our community that work in the Comic Book and Multimedia Industry. We are dedicated to what matters most to them because what serves and uplifts them serves and uplifts us all- read that sentence again. And in order to do that, WinC requires funding from grants and membership dues. We don't receive any federal funding, we make due with what our community generously gives us. Membership is extended to anyone who believes in our mission, it isn't exclusive to any one group. If you believe in equity, sustainability, and restorative justice for historically underrepresented marginalized community members, then we are organization for you.

As I mentioned earlier in this post, this year has been trying for us all, including organizations like WinC. Many organizations lost funding due to the federal government rescinding their grants. We received less funding due to local grant organizations not having enough funding. It's been tough. We had to scale back on some of our planned activities this year because of that. We're bracing for what's to come in 2026, but are mentally prepared for whatever challenges come our way. This December through February we're doing a membership/donation drive to support our endeavors in 2026. We're taking one time donations as well as recurring ones via membership. Donations support the production of events, website maintenance, (we'll possibly be moving to a new platform, updates on that soon), convention/conference costs, and WinC Magazine, (we're hoping to relaunch it sometime in 2026.) Check out our Membership page for more information. One time donations can be made by clicking the Donate button at the top of this page.

We're here, WinC is still here after taking a little break in November. Let's continue to come together as a community. We'll be updating the website next week with more resources as previously promised.

Have safe holiday and winter season folks. And be consider what you're able to give on Giving Tuesday and beyond

Sincerely,

Regine

Coordinator & Founder
